The Bowery Wine Company located in the East Village of New York at 13 E 1st St (between Bowery & 2nd Ave) is one of those places as a wine person you can recommend both the wine and the food. Along with great house wines such as the Forestville Chardonnay from Sonoma ($8 per glass, $34 per bottle) and the Ca Donini Pinot Grigio from Veneto,Italy (same price) there are food favorite such as Classic Italian Panini ($12) and the pizzas (Margherita Pizza, Whole wheat Pizza, 3 Cheese Pizza, Pesto Pizza) all at $12. Once you dive further into the food menu you will find great pasta, salads, desserts, and appetizers.
Specials include Mon thru Fri 5pm – 8pm Half Price Appetizers and live jazz on select dates. Their hours are Monday through Thursday 5pm-1am, Friday 5-2, Sat 12-2, and Sunday 12pm-1am. Visit their website at www.bowerywineco.com

Located in the Lower Haight, an unlikely location for such a place, is Uva Enoteca. It’s location on 568 Haight Street between Fillmore and Steiner has an upscale appeal but the prices are totally affordable for San Francisco. One of the highlights of this wine bar is that their entire wine list is made up of Italian wines, which is a plus in our view for enjoying wine.
Their food menu consists of small items and pizza which qualifies it as a wine bar in our opinion. No dealing with what type of food or wine to pick. Also, their wine is served in a “quartino” 8 oz pour in mini carafe which makes it easy to enjoy wine with friends.
Uva Enoteca is located at 568 Haight St as we mentioned before in San Francisco and can be reached by phone at (415) 829-2024 or at their website www.uvaenoteca.com. Their hours are from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Mon thru Thurs and Sunday. They are open until 11:30 pm on Friday and Saturday. Check out their Happy Hour from 5pm to 6:30pm Sunday – Thursday.

The EOS Wine Salon located beside the EOS Asian Fusion restaurant in San Francisco offers a collection of wines that Wine Director Hector Osuna has picked up from “individual growers and smaller boutique winemakers with emphasis on single vineyard Cult Wines.” Wines from such places as South Africa, Chile, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand, share room on the 250 bottle wine list with Old World European Wines. Osuna is looking for undiscovered treasures that will make enjoying wine at EOS an enlightening one.

Enjoying wine is possible in the West End Wine Bar’s two locations in North Carolina. There is one location in Chapel Hill and one in Durham NC. On their website they say that “We are passionate and knowledgeable about wine of all styles, origins, and price points and want you to enjoy whatever you choose to drink at the Wine Bar.”
They offer their extensive list of wine by the glass in 2 oz or 5 oz servings most in the $5-$13 range for the larger size. Their food menu is based on a European style of dining offering either a light snack or a full meal.
They have gourmet cheeses, meats, olives, and nuts as well as pizzas. Again if you are in the Chapel Hill or Durham area stop by and enjoy one of these wine bars.

Located in the Center City section of Philadelphia this wine bar is located between Walnut and Chestnut Street about three blocks from City Hall. This bar offers a great place for enjoying wine with a frequently changing wine list and beer list at reasonable prices. Their extensive and affordable food menu offers things from burgers to escargot and steak. Definitely a place you should check out if your travels take you to the City of Brotherly Love.
